The Ugly Sweater Run came dancing through NO snow in a one-horse open sleigh. O’er the fields we go laughing all the way. Did you see the group of ugly sweaters today? What a great day for The Ugly Sweater Run. Unseasonably warm and sunny it was ugly sweater DAYYYY!
The charity partner for the event was Save The Children, an organization that helps children in need through sponsorship, child protection, education, emergency response, health and nutrition, hunger, and livelihoods as well as HIV and Aids services.
If you have never seen 3000 ugly sweaters packed together on actual humans, let me tell you, it’s impossible not to smile and enjoy the day.
The race started off in front of the capital with the national anthem. The organizers had scheduled someone to sing, but that individual could not make it due to laryngitis so a volunteer was chosen from the crowd. Juliette from Brookfield was the brave soul who stepped up and sang. She did not disappoint and 3000 sweater heads joined in for a patriotic moment. For her bravery, Juliette was given free registration for next year’s run. Thank you Juliette for leading us in our National Anthem. The runners were set off in waves of around 300 until everyone started the race.
After the race, there were competitions for ugly sweater, ugly vintage sweater, ugly team sweater, best mustache, beard and on……There was a whole North Pole set up going on with a 40 foot tall Santa, inflatable reindeer, giant snow globes to climb in for pictures, and a beer garden for the grown ups as well as hot chocolate for the kids.
It was a great event and be sure to look for them next year! For other events like this please check out our theme run page.
